Keynote Speakers: The Lowdown

by Assistant on December 8, 2009

At a political event, industrial convention or academic event there will often be a keynote speech given to outline the main message or theme of the occasion. The speaker is usually someone of notoriety within their sector who has achieved great things or is a big personality in their industry. Keynote speakers can boost their own careers through the speeches they give or have a positive impact on their audience.

Some of the more infamous keynote speeches in the US are those at the party conventions during the presidential campaign for both Democratic and republican candidates. politicians can raise their profile at these events like Barack Obama did at the 2004 democratic national Convention. p If their speech is strong enough, some keynote speakers will have an impact on the result of the election campaign. Similar speeches are given at political conventions and party meetings across the globe.

Keynote speeches are also given at the graduation ceremonies of colleges and universities, usually by accomplished academics or celebrities invited by the institution. these speeches are light in tone hoping to entertain the guests at the event and congratulate the grandaunts.

Keynote speakers are often chosen to gain more interest in a particular event, such as a conference or large meeting sponsored by a corporation or company, and draw people to attend that event. Picking a keynote speaker who is well known for his or her expertise in a certain sector, or is famous for their other accomplishments, will probably raise excitement among prospective attendees for a meeting or conference.

most speeches last between half an hour and an hour although this can be changed depending on the event and whether you have hired an accommodating speaker. Many speakers are honoured to attend events and may not charge a fee because they earn positive publicity in their own right for their presentation. Corporate and sponsored events usually pay their speakers because they are given sponsorship, the speaker will receive a pre0arranged fee for giving their speech.
