Want to have a site full of killer content? Afraid you can’t write anything people will want to read? Think you need a professional to write your articles for you?
Guess what? There is really nothing to it. You can write articles that will attract all the readers you want and you don’t need a MFA to do it.
There’s really nothing special to writing great content.
1. Know Your Audience – You can’t write great content unless you know who you are writing it for. Different audiences look for different things. Know your audience. Consider who you are writing for and what they want to read. Write for them and they will read.
2. Pick a Great Topic – There is an exciting angle to everything. While an article on tax preparation may not be overly exciting to most, an article on the most underutilized tax breaks will appeal to almost everyone. Find that angle and create useful interesting content.
3. Keep it Current – There is a lot of content on the web and a lot of it was written years ago. Make sure your articles deal with what’s happening this year, this week, this very day in your niche. Give people the latest information and they’ll check back to keep informed.
4. Grab ‘Em With the Title – Make sure your title grabs their attention. A flat title will kill even the best writing because no one will ever read past it. What’s more, if the title is a good enough hook, even mediocre writing can seem outstanding.
5. Write, What You’d Say – I never understand people who say they can’t write. If you can talk, you can write. It really is just that simple. If you are having trouble figuring out how to write what you want to say, call a friend and tell them about what you want to write about. Now write what you said. You can even record the conversation if you need to.
6. But, Be Concise – People don’t like wordiness. I’ll just leave it at that.
7. Say What You Wrote (Aloud) – Editing is important. No one likes to read an article full of typos. So, now that you’ve written what you’d say, say what you just wrote. This is the best editing trick in the world and one that, admittedly, I don’t employ often enough. When you’ve finished writing an article read it aloud. People have a tendency to correct their own mistakes subconsciously when reading their own writing, so self editing can be difficult, but reading aloud will help greatly in finding all those omitted words and typos.
There it is. You’re done. Like I said, anyone can create killer content in seven easy steps.
Now get to writing that killer content! Or, have The Publicists Assistant Write It For You! There are people out there just dying to read it.
