For candidate for elected office, they need to focus on effectiveness. What is the most effective use of their time knowing the election is nearing. While it does not fit our picture of what a candidate should do sometimes that means that the candidate needs to sit in a room and call wealthy people asking them for thousands of dollars a piece. Other times it is in line with what the author is talking about and requires the candidate going door to door. As the author mentioned yard signs.
