Many are finding today’s retail selling environment to be a bit more challenging than in previous years. Yet somehow while some companies are laying off workers, reducing inventory and even liquidating completely, others are thriving. When you own a dollar store today’s environment could offer amazing opportunities for growth and dollar store profits. Yet achieving outstanding results won’t come without some creativity and action. And certainly achieving outstanding results will not happen without facing challenges head-on and then taking action to make positive change in your business.
If doing the same things the same way you’ve always done them isn’t working for your business, then now is the time to take a step back. It is the right time to examine and understand all of your business challenges. Find the weaknesses in your current business model. Find those actions that are not working for your business. Focus on the bottom line results everything you do produces. After all the measure of success over the long term will be your dollar store profits. If you own a dollar store and have completed this examination, this is the time to take action and make changes.
Are sales down? Examine you marketing and promotion activities. Which of those activities are actually working to grow sales? It’s time to make changes and eliminate or enhance those activities that just aren’t producing results. Now is the time to get creative and original in your marketing activities. Are costs skyrocketing higher? Repeat the process you followed for marketing and promotional activities and examine all costs. Start with the major costs associated with your business success as cost-of-goods-sold, payroll, and rent. Then work your way through all other costs. Establish aggressive programs to intelligently reduce all of those costs. Remember to focus on becoming more efficient and effective in your spending. If a costs yields higher profit than the cost, obviously that is a keeper expense and the focus isn’t to cut it entirely, but rather to reduce it.
If you own a dollar store and have decided to wait these economic times out you are missing an opportunity. You are missing the opportunity to grow your sales and your dollar store profits. But don’t expect to achieve the full potential of your business if you choose to sit and wait for better times to arrive. Grasp this opportunity for success.
