Viral Marketing. Useful Facts to Bear in Mind

What is viral marketing or viral advertising?
How do you create a proper viral advertising campaign?

These are the questions to which I will be giving answers in this post, along with other important aspects of a successful viral marketing campaign.

Lets begin by defining this marketing technique.

The term “viral marketing” describes any marketing strategy or technique that encourages people to distribute information to others and those others to other people and so on creating a spread that resembles a the spreading of a virus. Once some people have been “infected” they will “infect” other people and so on, creating an “epidemic”.

The viral marketing strategy is one of the most powerful technique marketing has to offer. Why?

Well here is a very good example of what viral marketing can do:

Lets take Google. How do you think Google got to be where it is today? Because it was very helpful and easy to use. People liked it very much and started spreading Google’s name to their friend and their friend to their friends and so on thus creating the viral effect. If you had a book and you told people how great it is and they should buy it … they probably wont because they do not thrust you and think that you are only after their money. However if a friend of theirs or someone else not related to you tells them to buy it … they probably will, simply because of the “I have nothing to gain from telling you this” element.
This is why viral marketing is so effective.

There is so much to talk about I don’t even know where to begin. So here are a few basic things to keep in mind in order to make a successful viral marketing campaign:

-Make it easy for people to share it.
-Make it innovative and exciting.
-Make it free

These would be the top elements of a successful viral marketing campaign. I know these don’t exactly cover the hole topic so here is an example to give you some idea of what a viral marketing campaign looks like and maybe inspire you to create one of your own for your business.

Lets say I have a product to sell. So you make a little video about your product… a very funny one. People who like that video will pass it on to their friends.
Or here is another one: If you have a website and you want to make it popular, you can create a free e-book about something you talk about on your website. If you can give it away to people for free and then motivate those people to give it to other people, then you have a viral campaign going. Of course links to your website will be in that e-book.
