Keep your resolutions… and grow your network marketing profits

by Assistant on March 16, 2009

Did you get out of bed on New Year’s Day full of determination to make some changes in your life? Of this number, how many are still at more than a week or so later? My guess is that the second number is only a tiny percentage of the first. What happens? Where does the moral and motivational fervor we feel on December 31st go and why does it dissipate so rapidly?

The answer is called “homeostasis”.

Your body and mind are designed for sameness. Humans love stability in everything from our body temperature and heart rates to our habits. Change, no matter how welcome or how badly needed, is calamitous. Think back to some of the major changes you’ve experienced in your own life and ask yourself just how stressful those situations really were. Our subconscious minds will try every trick it can think of to resist change at all cost. Make some radical change, such as a new resolution, and your body will immediately try to undermine you. You may have no idea how you’re undermining to yourself until it’s too late. This is a very deliberate thing. Your body and brain are constantly working to keep you (the homo sapiens) in a static set of circumstances (stasis), which is where the word “homeostasis” comes from.

The good news is that you can hotwire this inner programming and make whatever changes you want in your life or business using a very simple 4-step process:

First, define your goal right down to the who, what, where, when, why, how, and so what.

The second step is to break your goals down into simple actions that you can take each week to grow your network marketing business. Having done that, you need to forget everything but your actions for the current week and place all of your focus on what you need to do now, in the present. Just like that, you’ve broken your lofty goals into manageable chunks that should be easy to take care of each week.

The third step is to take the actions you need to take for that week.

Finally, decide in advance how you’re going to reward yourself for achieving your week’s milestone. Don’t go overboard; you need not spend a lot of money or go to much trouble. It must, however, be creative and meaningful to you on more than a superficial level.

These easy steps render even the most complicated goals simple by letting you bite off one small piece at a time. Best of all, you get to celebrate and feel great about every single little piece. Life is a journey. You may as well enjoy it.

You can apply this process any way you like. Want to start a new network marketing business? Grow your existing network marketing business? Lose weight? Hire additional help? Get a professional certification or degree? Prepare and file your taxes? This process makes achievement easy because it tricks the mind into thinking all is stable while you are actually making changes. This slow, measured change is like stepping slowly into cold water. Do it slowly enough and you’ll get used to the water.

Don’t stop making goals or resolutions. Just use this system to make sure you succeed with those resolutions. So… what would you like to accomplish this year?

The secret to success in your network marketing business is to be good to yourself and what you want out this life by using this simple 4-step process. Do that and you will succeed beyond your wildest dreams! That’s a promise.
