When an Assistant Manager Should Move On
You as an assistant manager have been placed in every department when there is a problem consistently obtaining outstanding results. In the District you are known and have received accolades from the District GM but have never been mentioned for any of the 5 GM positions awarded in the past year.
Your departments have won awards and excelled under your leadership and you are expected to continue this level of performance. The GM for the store has praised your leadership, integrity and above all loyalty to the company. It is time for you to consider making a move as you have exceeded all expectations while receiving no real respect. If any assistant manager can move to several departments and consistently excelled then you have a genuine leader that needs to be recognized and promoted.
Unfortunately some good companies have a click and if you aren’t involved then your chances of promotion are slim. When other company managers that have no idea of your talents have influence on your being promotion then there is a serious high level leadership problem.
Let’s use an example: Top performer in every department as a manager, lowest attrition rate and 3 associates promoted to Supervisor along with zero disciplinary issues. I have seen this; the HR Manager and other company managers didn’t respect this ladies exceptional performance.
There are countless businesses that are not politically motivated or influenced, if unfortunately you are in one that is then I suggest you move on immediately. There is a big world that will give you earned respect and don’t let anyone make you believe otherwise.
