England is home to people from around the world, nearly every country is represented in our eclectic cities. Stricter immigration laws mean that the ability to speak English is a necessity, but the levels that an applicant has to meet are rarely high enough for them to hold a conversation in English for a long amount of time. Whilst you do not need to be a qualified teacher, to be able to teach English to immigrants you need to be of graduate level. If you are working in the private sector you can sometimes get a job without a degree but you have to have an excellent grasp of the English language. If you are working in a state school within the UK, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is required on top of your degree. With a lot of subjects oversubscribed for teachers like English and history, there is a good chance of securing a job as a TESOL teacher for young graduates.

Teaching English to speakers of other languages is a less competitive field than other teaching but equally rewarding, you could make a big difference to the lives of others and learn about different cultures all the time.
